HDK-0501 Interactive Logic Development Kit

The Hevday^® Development Kit is a complete hardware-software system that enables you to design, debug and run an FPGA logic circuit as easily as programming a PLC.

The software system is unique and fully integrated with the hardware for simplicity of use and rapid project completion. Key features are the outstanding visibility of circuit operation with the ability to view and modify circuit data while online, and run, pause and single-step the circuit. Hevday’s Interactive Logic is designed to provide optimal functionality and ease-of-use for small volume applications. By matching the software to the exact requirements of their Logic Module, Hevday have been able to provide a system that is extremely easy to learn and use. The Xilinx compiler is used in the background for actual circuit compilation.

The Interactive Logic software is a free download that enables you to -

• enter a logic circuit as a set of schematics organized as a project tree,

•  represent lower level schematics used at higher levels as custom function block symbols,

• compile and download the circuit into the logic module to run at a selected clock frequency up to 100MHz,

• run, pause or single step the circuit, and set breakpoints on signal transitions,

• observe and force/modify signals and circuit data directly on the schematics at any point on any level in the circuit, and display signals and data waveforms as they develop.

The Hevday Logic Module is not a simulator and uses real logic hardware circuit configured in an FPGA, but if you need a fast hardware-assisted behavioural simulator, try Interactive Logic with a Logic Module.

The Logic Module is designed to save you time, and as such provides all the necessary circuitry for FPGA voltage regulation, decoupling and power distribution, clock generation and frequency selection, circuit configuration, writing the configuration to the flash ROM, power-on reset, time-base, and circuit data access.

Hevday’s Logic Module, together with a TCP/IP Communications Card (Comms Card), makes up the hardware component of the Interactive Logic System. If you supply a Logic Module and Comms Card with 5 Volt power, and connect them to a PC with the software via a network or crossover cable, you will have an operational Interactive Logic System.

Comms Cards come in two kinds. Both are full microcomputer systems with embedded TCP/IP stacks and special software for controlling the Logic Module. The Development Comms Card supports all features of Interactive Logic required for circuit development. The lower cost Monitor Comms Card supports restricted features designed for monitoring systems in operation. You need at least one Development Comms Card for circuit development, but either kind of Comms Card will operate with any Logic Module. Logic Modules and Comms Cards are available for purchase separately.

Once your circuit is developed, the Logic Module itself may be used with or without a Comms Card. Without a Comms card it can load your circuit from flash ROM and run it at a designated clock frequency at power-up.

The Logic Module has 96 user I/O pins, provided on six 20-pin headers. Each header has 16 I/O plus 4 ground pins. Each I/O pin is usable as an input, output or bidirectional connection. I/O levels suit LVTTL and 3V3 CMOS. All connectors are high reliability with 30microinches of gold on the contacts.

Suitable cables to match the I/O headers can be supplied on request. The 20-way 0.05 inch pitch flat cables are terminated on one end only, allowing you to choose the termination type for the end that connects to your equipment, and to adjust the length to exactly suit your application.
