The Xprotolab is the first mixed signal oscilloscope (MSO) with a Spectrum Analyzer and Arbitrary Waveform Generator (AWG) in a DIP module. It measures only 1 x 1.6 inches, and can be mounted directly on a breadboard. The Xprotolab can also be used as a development board for the AVR XMEGA microcontroller.

The Xprotolab can be powered with either the USB or with an external power supply, applying +5V on the corresponding pin. It is recommended use all ground pins. Do not apply +5V if using the USB port.

Absolute Maximum Voltages:
5V Power: +5.5V
Analog Inputs: +/-30V
External Trigger: +5.5V
Digital inputs: +3.5V

Factory Setup
The device can enter factory options if the MENU key is pressed during power up. The following options are available:
1) Offset calibration: The unit is calibrated before being shipped, but calibration is required again if the firmware is updated.
2) Sleep timeout: This is a "screensaver feature" to extend the OLED life and to reduce power, you can select after how many minutes the device will enter the sleep mode after the last keypress.
3) Restore defaults: There are a lot of settings in the device, select this function to restore to the default the settings (for example, if you get lost with a lot of things on the screen).

User Interface
The K4 button is the MENU button, used to navigate thru all the menus.
The K1 - K3 buttons action depend on the current menu.
On the right is the navigation tree. The green arrows represent the flow when pressing the MENU button. If a menu doesn't show a green arrow, the next menu will be the default.

Seems like a fairly complete device. The PC interface would add much value. The price is right. The logic analyzer demo was totally meaningless. Some of the specifications are not clear [Example: Digital inputs = 3.5V Threshold or max voltage? If Vmax=3.5V, what happens if connected to 5V circuits?]
Earl (Las Cruces, NM) - 03/18/2011 ratingrating
incomplete specifications: micro USB power cord included? Pin out/in signals and location? Can it be powered by pins? offset limits? spectrum analyzer limits?
