Dear Colleague,
|
|
Some
of our newsletter readers replied that I was being overly optimistic last
month with my hope that the recession is moving behind us. Maybe
this article "10 Business Survival
Strategies for a Bad Economy" would be helpful to your business
situation if that's not the case. Nevertheless, I hope you get some
relaxing time this summer, perhaps delegating all the tough stuff to
someone else to finish while you're away!

Raspberry Pi Meets
DrDAQ
|
|
The new British
$25 Raspberry Pi single-board computer is such an obvious match for
Pico Technology's DrDAQ, the compact single-board data logger, that
they just had to put the two together. The result is a Debian Linux
driver and C++ example code, now available for free download. Now you
can add all of these DrDAQ features to any Raspberry Pi project:
- 100 kHz
oscilloscope
- Arbitrary
waveform generator
- 4
digital I/Os (2 with pulse-counting input and PWM output)
- 24-bit
RGB LED
- light
sensor
- temperature
sensor, microphone
- Resistance
measuring input
- 3
external sensor inputs
- pH/redox
sensor input
And coming soon: A
Python wrapper for the DrDAQ driver. More...

Datalogging Survey Results - Data Logger vs Logic Analyzer
|

Byte
Paradigm (digital test products) conducted an informal survey
among their visitors at Embedded World (Nuremberg, Germany) and Design
West (San Jose, USA) earlier this year, asking about embedded design tool
use: "Digital
Data Logger or Logic Analyzer?" Here are the results.

AnaPico (RF
generators) has recently introduced some new products at the IMS show in
Montreal. One of these is the APPH6000RM-IS - an
all-in-one comprehensive automated measurement system for evaluating RF
signal sources. SSB phase noise, amplitude noise, AM noise
measurement, additive or residual noise characterization, and baseband
noise measurements up to 6GHz can easily be made for sources such as
crystal oscillators, PLL synthesizers, clocks, phase-locked VCOs, DROs,
and many others. Direct access to a built-in FFT analyzer mode allows
baseband signal and (LF) noise analysis. The APPH6000RM-IS
features a cross-correlator engine and internal low noise reference
sources to enable fast and accurate "one-click"
measurements. More ...

Revolutionary iPad Oscilloscope Wins R&D 100 Award
|
|
Oscium's iMSO-104 has been
recognized as one of the 100 most technologically significant products
introduced into the marketplace over the past year. An independent
judging panel and the editors of R&D Magazine selected Oscium's iPad
oscilloscope for the prestigious R&D 100 Award. The
iMSO transforms an iPad or an iPhone into a professional measurement tool
- a completely new approach to test and measurement. The iMSO-104
is significant because it merges the test equipment industry with the
smartphone and tablet industries. This approach creates an
oscilloscope that is uniquely portable, intuitive, and modular.
R&D 100 Awards have long been a benchmark of excellence in
identifying revolutionary technologies.

Clean Water Donation - Contribution Match
|
|
When I was in Southeast Asia in 2011,
I discovered for myself the tremendous impact that clean water has on a
community. It reduces disease, promotes healthy bodies, and
provides the means for families to become self-sufficient by growing
their own gardens and caring for their own animals. Clean water is
absolutely vital and we here in the West often take it for granted.
The average cost of a rural well is $4,800. Each well provides water for
1,000 people or more. This means that a child can receive a lifetime of clean
water for as little as $4.80.
So, Saelig is humbly
offering the opportunity for
anyone who would like to partner with us to provide clean water in
Cambodia. This is so important to us here at Saelig
that we will match
your contribution dollar for dollar up to the entire cost
of a rural well! Thank you for considering a small donation to make
a difference for less than a cup of coffee! Here is a
short video.
The organization
we are partnering with is Life Outreach
International. We have funded
one well already and are working on our second one!
