 I
hope your new year is getting off to a great start! I met with two
of our suppliers at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas earlier
this month. MakerBot
was showing off their latest 3D Printer to great interest. They announced
the MakerBot Replicator 2X, a new dual-extruder version
with heated build plate to be released next month (more details and
advanced ordering here).
Plessey
Electronics was attracting attendees with its
new gesture sensing system for consumer products (such as tablets
and PC monitors) as well as a novel solution for monitoring driver
fatigue. I also found a couple of new products which are going through
Saelig's evaluation process now, and will be announced next month if they
meet our rigorous requirements.

manufacturers. The MS8226
is a precision general-purpose 3 3/4 digits (4000 count) digital
multimeter that can be used as a stand-alone instrument or as a low-cost
system for logging data to a PC host while opto-isolated from the host
computer. The MS8226
measures AC/DC voltage, AC/DC current, resistance, diode operation,

Pico Technology started the year with a new beta release of
PicoScope: R6.7.12. This has the following new features for you to
try out:
- Signal generator triggers -- Start and stop the signal generator or AWG
manually or on an external signal. Generate a specified number of
cycles. Available on all current USB scopes with a signal generator/AWG
from PicoScope 2206 upwards, excluding PicoScope 4226 and 4227.
- I2S decoding -- Analyze serial data in digital audio circuits.
- Selective save -- Save specified waveforms from the waveform
buffer.
- Save
the visible portion of a zoomed waveform.
