DSSS 2.4 GHz Low
Power True Diversity Radio Transceiver
|
|

The STD-502-R
2.4 GHz transceiver from Circuit Design uses direct sequence spread
spectrum (DSSS) modulation and a true diversity circuit, enabling
reliable communications even in the congested 2.4 GHz band. The STD-502-R
complies with European, USA and Japanese standards making it ready for
the global market. Low power consumption and battery operation give
the STD-502-R the performance demanded for applications where long range
and reliability are required. The transceiver uses a transparent data
interface to enable users to communicate using their own protocols with
77 available channels at a line-of-site range of up to 300m.
Designed to be embedded in equipment, the STD-502-R was developed as a
radio module for industrial applications that require reliable operation.
Besides using highly noise-resistant direct-sequence spread spectrum
modulation, the module has a true diversity receiver function for
preventing signal dropout due to multi-path fading. The modules can be
set easily via the RS-232 UART interface using dedicated commands.
Spread-spectrum correlation (a key part of spread spectrum
communications) is via a custom onboard ASIC instead of relying upon
conventional RFICs, which guarantees the long-term supply of key radio
components required in industrial devices. More ...

Multi-layer Thickness Measurement System
|
|

Do you need an
easy-to-use, reliable thickness measurement system with sub-micron
accuracy for objects 12um to 50mm thick? The OptiGauge MLS™,
from Lumetrics, is an innovative, patented non-contact thickness
measurement system that is non-destructive and since it is
self-calibrating, it leaves no opportunity for operator error. The
OptiGauge MLS™ can measure each translucent coating in an object up to 20
layers thick - the thickness of individual layers and total overall
thickness is calculated automatically. This system is geared to customers
who require the most flexibility in a measurement system. The multi-
layer system provides the ease of use, reliability, and sub-micron
accuracy that manufacturers need for use in quality, R&D labs, and
production floors. This system can improve yields, reduce costs,
increase quality, and contribute to meeting strict compliance
requirements. A selection of available optical probes can be used
to direct 1310nm infrared light from a super-luminescent LED through a
variety of transparent, translucent, or colored materials. As the
refractive index changes from each internal surface, the OptiGauge MLS
produces reflections for instant analysis with the advanced software's
graphical interface. The patented design contains no moving parts for
excellent reliability when measuring objects from 12um to 50mm thick,
with sub-micron accuracy. More ...

NEW! Data
Streaming With Cleverscopes
|
The latest release of Cleverscope
software includes STREAMING for the first time! You can now stream
signals to a PC hard drive at up to 1.6 MSamples/sec for days - just make
sure the hard drive is large enough! Many customers have wanted this -
and now existing Cleverscope users can upgrade as well. Just point
to where the files will be saved, set the speed in Acquisition Settings,
click on the Stream button, and that's it! Stand back and watch the bits
fly. A video on Cleverscope's
website shows how to set it up and examine the resulting output. This
software update also allows existing Cleverscope owners to upgrade to the
new CS701 Isolated AWG Signal Generator. The CS701 is useful for driving
a small signal into the feedback loop in things such as power supplies,
audio power amplifiers, servo amplifiers and positioning systems, and
then measuring the resulting correction. By doing this over the operating
frequency range the user plots gain and phase, and can directly measure
the system stability, all while the system is used normally. You
need isolation because the feedback loop is not usually ground
referenced. Prior to the CS701 you needed an expensive network analyzer,
so go to it! More ...

The PicoScope
5000 Series of 2 and 4 channel Flexible Resolution
Oscilloscopes has just been voted Test & Measurement
Product of the Year by the judges of Electronics Weekly's
Elektra Awards. The oscilloscopes, with 60 to 200 MHz bandwidth
options, were chosen for their usability as well as their performance.
They all include an arbitrary waveform generator, up to 512 Msample
buffer memory, software resolution enhancement to 20 bits, advanced
triggers including pulse width, dropout, window, runt pulse, logic and
delayed, math channels, spectrum analyzer, and serial decoding of SPI,
I2C, I2S, UART/RS-232, CAN, LIN and FlexRay. The PicoScope 5000 Series
scopes are the only oscilloscopes to provide selectable hardware
resolution from 8 to 16 bits in a single device while maintaining low
noise and distortion. They achieve this by using a novel digitizer
architecture in which multiple high-resolution ADCs are sequenced in a
variety of series and parallel combinations.
Two
PicoScope products have reached the final of EDN's Best-in-Test 2014
awards. The PicoScope 5000 Series Flexible Resolution Oscilloscopes are
listed in the Handheld/Portable Test
category, while the PicoScope 9300 Series Sampling Oscilloscopes feature
in the Signal
Integrity/High-Speed section. The new sampling oscilloscopes, with 20
GHz bandwidth and 64 femtosecond timing resolution, can analyze
high-speed serial comms, semiconductors and interconnect. And the
PicoScope 9300 Series of PC sampling oscilloscopes is on EDN magazine's "Hot Products of 2013"
list. EDN's editors were impressed by the scopes' 20 GHz bandwidth,
equivalent to a rise time of 17.5ps, which allows analysis of high-speed
electrical signals such as 10 Gbps Ethernet, 10x Fibre Channel,
InfiniBand and PCI Express. Like all PicoScopes, the 9300 Series scopes
are USB-connected, resulting in a compact instrument that takes up much
less space than traditional benchtop devices. They also have a LAN port
for remote operation. More...

Low Cost SMD Antennas
|
|

The Proant OnBoard™ SMD 2400 (2.4GHz band) and SMD GPS
(GPS and Glonass) miniature surface-mount antennas for mobile wireless
products move embedded antenna integration one step ahead by combining
high performance and low cost in this new OnBoard™ SMD
family. Traditionally, small low cost antennas for printed circuit
board assembly have been manufactured with a dielectric substrate as the
base for the radiating structure. With this approach, the antenna is
normally a rectangular block, which means that the PCB area below the
antenna is unavailable for mounting other components. The substrate
itself also introduces dielectric losses to the antenna, so Proant has
taken the concept of small SMD antennas one step ahead by increasing both
the antenna performance and design flexibility, and combining this with
low cost and manufacturability. The result is the new OnBoard™ SMD
antenna family which builds on previous OnBoard™ antennas, but in a
surface mounted sheet metal solution, packaged in tape-on-reel and
suitable for high volume manufacturing. One of OnBoard's key features,
which eliminates the need of the dielectric substrate used in other SMD
antennas, is the patent-pending capacitively-loaded footprint of the
antenna's supporting pins - which significantly reduces losses and
increases the performance. More...
