PearlBlue™ Ready-To-Go Bluetooth Module
– quickly implements a serial link between computers, portable computers, smart phones and other PearlBlue modules.

Pittsford, NY: PearlBlue™ is a Class 1 (up to 100m range) intelligent Bluetooth module that implements a transparent UART-to-Bluetooth interface bridge in master or slave mode, offering a fast wireless solution for embedded applications.  PearlBlue™ implements a proprietary command-based firmware over the Bluetooth serial Port Profile to allow worry free point-to-point wireless communication for devices incorporating this profile over Bluetooth.  PearlBlue™ connects the radio serial port to a physical UART that can be easily interfaced to any embedded microcontroller, PDA, or computer.  Additionally, PearlBlue™ offers 6 general purpose I/O lines.

The tiny 1.25” x 1.1” PearlBlue™ can act as master or slave and implements a wireless RS232 link between computers, equipment, smart phones, and other Bluetooth devices.  PearlBlue™ may also be used as an RS232-to-Bluetooth configurable dongle with advanced capabilities such as: initiate a connection, wait for connection, search/identify (name and Class of Device), define name and CoD, security with configurable PIN, directly control 6 I/O lines, etc. 

PearlBlue™ is OS- and hardware independent and is intended to give Bluetooth capability to embedded instruments, industrial controls, ambient monitors, medical instruments, etc. Bluetooth wireless protocol enables high-speed data transfer with portable devices such as handheld computers, phones, data-collection devices. at low cost for up to 100 meters.  Radio power is 14dBm at a carrier frequency of 2.4GHz. Power supply is 3.3V at 110mA maximum.

Operating temperature -40degC to +70degC.  An accessory RS-232 board is also available ($99) with sockets for a PearlBlue module and a 3.3V regulator and is useful for quick PC connection. 

Bluetooth is a wireless communication protocol conceived to enable high speed data transfer for portable devices. Bluetooth-enabled embedded systems may communicate with handheld devices at low cost up to 300 feet.
