New
Product Press Release
March 17, 2006 … for immediate release!
Worlds-first Quad UART has 256-byte FIFO
Pittsford, NY: SB16C1054
is a new Quad UART(Universal Asynchrous Receiver/Transmitter) with four 256-byte
FIFOs, automatic hardware/software flow control, and data rates up to 5.3
Mbps. SB16C1054’s world’s-largest 256-byte FIFOs reduce CPU overhead and
allow higher data rates and data throughput.
In addition to increased FIFO size and data rates, SB16C1054 also offers
enhanced features. SB16C1054 has a GICR(Global Interrupt Control
Register)/GISR(Global Interrupt Status Register) which reduces interrupt signal
control logic. Also featured is an FUR(Flow control Upper Threshold Register)/FLR(Flow
control Lower Threshold Register) which stores Receive FIFO threshold levels to
start or stop transmission during hardware and software flow control. For system
clocks up to 85
MHz, SB16C1054 allows Xoff re-transmit function as well as Xon any
character function for flow control operation. On-chip status registers indicate
transmission conditions and all error-related information (parity, overrun,
framing or break interrupt). An internal loop-back capability allows helpful
on-board diagnostics, which can potentially reduce service issues.
SB16C1054
can be programmed for various interrupt trigger levels and has the same register
set as the industry-standard 16C554 and 16C654
for the convenience. RS-422 automatic multi-drop
mode and RS-485 echo/non-echo
mode are supported. SB16C1054’s sleep function can be
enabled for low
power consumption.
SB16C1054 is
pin-compatible
with the commonly-used 16C554. With 5V-tolerant inputs, SB16C1054
normally operates at
3.3V.
Designed by SystemBase (Korea) and recently announced in Shanghai at IIC-CHINA
2006 (the largest system design event in China), SB16C1054 is available
now from Saelig Co. Inc. in plastic TQFP80 and PLCC68 packages.
