SOMO-14D Audio Output Module
Tiny Audio-Sound Board Plays
Back Micro-SD-stored WAV or MP3 Files
Pittsford, NY: Saelig Company, Inc. (Saelig) (www.saelig.com) announces the availability of SOMO-14D - a tiny (only 18.3 x 20.8 mm) Audio-Sound Module that can play back pre-stored audio files (voice and music) from a micro-SD memory card. This compact 14pin drop-in-module takes up very minimal board space and is ideal for any application that requires embedded audio.
SOMO-14D offers two modes of operation, SERIAL-MODE and KEY-MODE: SERIAL-MODE provides a simple 2-wire interface to any micro-controller via its DATA and CLK lines. Audio operations such as PLAY, PAUSE, STOP and VOLUME control functions are all available to the host micro via simple serial commands; KEY-MODE provides standalone operation - no host microcontroller required. With only 3 push buttons, a 3V battery and a speaker, an extremely compact and low component count MP3-player system can be implemented.
SOMO-14D offers a very flexible, compact, and low cost embedded audio output solution for many embedded sound applications. It supports 4-bit ADPCM (.ad4) file formats with sampling rates from 6Khz to 36Khz on 64Mb to 2Gig micro-SD memory cards (FATfile format). By using a free software tool provided, any WAVE(.wav) or MP3(.mp3) file can be easily converted to the ADPCM(.ad4) format and saved to a micro-SD memory card. A dedicated 16-bit DAC/PWM audio output can feed an external amplifier or a direct speaker connection (8 Ohm/0.5W). This miniature RoHS-compliant board requires 2.7 – 3.6V, and has an extremely low idle current of 8.0uA.
Applications for SOMO-14D include: intelligent home automation and domestic appliances; robotics and industrial control; automotive, parking radar, GPS navigation systems; elevator, security, access-control and warning devices; toys, learning tools, talking books and gaming sound effects.
