New Multi-Layer Ambient Sensors Offer

Fast Response Time, High Reliability, Interchangeability.

Pittsford, NY. UPSICAP™ is an entirely new and novel range of passive and active sensors which accurately measure ambient temperature and relative humidity, with a wider operating range and accuracy than previously available.  The tiny (9mm x 8mm) passive elements vary their capacitance with humidity and their resistance with temperature, and are fully interchangeable without recalibration.  UPSICAP™ sensors are extremely reliable due to their novel and patented 4-layer construction - condensation and water immersion have no effect on their accuracy or their very fast response time (0.25s).

Recently devised by UPSI (France), this range of ambient sensors presents a major step forward in the ambient sensor arena. Their patented MSS bi-faceTM technology – exclusive to UPSI - offers excellent long-term stability, combined with lowered production cost. These devices can operate from a remarkable 0% to 100% RH, and
-90degC to +85degC, a span which competing sensors cannot accommodate.

Revolutionary MSS bi-faceTM technology is also available as plug-in micromodules (pinned board-level components or housed modules with Molex™ milli-grid sockets) with digital output for immediate application by end customers.  Versions are available for humidity only, or humidity and temperature. Output frequency varies with humidity (7.2kHz – 5.8kHz) and temperature is accurately indicated optionally by NTC variable resistance, linear platinum sensor, or linear voltage output consuming less than 1mW. To avoid instability and inaccuracy, the capacitive humidity cell is directly built on the active substrate´s upper side and the digital output conditioner is integrated on the reverse side.  Additional modules are available with 4 – 20mA output for humidity and temperature sensing.  These products are ideal for use in applications such as air conditioning (HVAC), weather measurement (radiosonde), home appliance, aeronautics, archiving conservation, military, qualification laboratories, etc.

UPSI (www.upsi.fr) have been developing ambient sensors for over 30 years, and, in fact, sold off their older sensor technology a few years ago - which their competitors are now using.  UPSI have been supplying OEM microsystems to European automotive manufacturers since 2004.

UPSICAP™ ambient sensors will be available May 2008 from Saelig Company.
