![]() Janz Tec AG emPC-A/RPI Fanless Embedded ControllerManufacturer: Janz Tec AG This product is superseded by the emPC-A/RPI3.
The emPC-A/RPI is a compact, fanless embedded controller based on a standard Raspberry Pi 2 B board, but with Janz Tec custom additions to implement additional features needed for industrial applications. Intended for wall or DIN-rail mount, the device comes in a robust plastic housing which has passed standard EMC certifications. The emPC-A/RPI includes many extra features that can expand the usefulness of the Raspberry Pi computer, including a CANbus interface. The compact 24 pin multi-connector provides connection to many of the emPC-A/RPI interfaces such as SPI, I2C, 8 x digital I/O lines, RS232/485, CAN, etc. Two USB interfaces and an Ethernet connection are also available on the connector panel. The compact (4.0” x 3.8” x 1.2”) and lightweight ( 0.9lb) emPC-A/RPI is based on the Raspberry Pi 2 Model B, powered by a 900MHz quad-core ARM Cortex-A7 BCM2836 processor with 1GB SDRAM. Built-in interfaces include: HDMI graphics, 10/100 Mbit/s Ethernet, 4 x USB 2.0, Micro SDcard socket, CAN, ISO/DIN 11898-2 (isolated from logic), a 9-pin D-SUB connector for serial debug, an RS232/485 Serial port, an RTC with battery backup, 4 x digital outputs, 4 x digital inputs (isolated from logic). The Serial Port is implemented by SC16IS740 UART and supports either RS232 or RS485 (link-selectable). The CAN interface is implemented by an MCP2515 controller chip. CAN interface signals support ISO 11898-2 (high speed) and are isolated from system logic. Input power can come from a 9 – 32V supply. Note: The emPC-A/RPI can be ordered in several versions but a microSD card is always necessary to run the device. This fits in the SD card slot on the internal Raspberry module. The emPC-A/RPI comes ready to install the Raspbian operating system. Customers can provide their own microSD card and download and install standard Raspian image themselves from https://www.raspberrypi.org/downloads/ (Raspbian Jessie Lite, or Raspbian Jessie recommended; NOOBS installation is not supported).. They can also download Janz Tec’s additional device drivers free of charge from our website on the product page. A second option is to order the system with the microSD card that has the OS and device drivers pre-installed. If the additional interfaces of the emPC-A/RPI (RTC, CAN, RS232/RS485) are required, then the Janz Tec emPC-A/RPI Linux driver package on SD card should be purchased (SD-MIC-008GB 8 GB microSD card plus SO-IMG-00001 Operating System Image.) This SD card contains a ready-to-use Raspbian JESSIE light operating system image with pre-installed Linux device drivers for available interfaces and I/Os. This Raspbian-compatible .deb package enables the additional features of the emPC-A/RPI such as RTC, CAN, and RS232/RS485. Other options include a compatible power supply, a Java environment, and a CODESYS SoftPLC runtime environment. For use in a CODESYS environment, a Java virtual machine (SO-JVM-EMB01), and a CODESYS V3 Control License (part no. SO-CDS-SL001 ) can be preinstalled on the SD card. CAN/CANopen tools are also available (SO-SOF-XXXXX). CODESYS is a soft PLC program created by 3S-Smart Software Solutions GmbH. This IEC 61131-3 programming system in combination with the emPC-A/RPI system is ideal for test, industrial, and educational applications since the controller can make extensive use of the additional interfaces the emPC-A/RPI offers. |
