Fairport, NY. Saelig Company Inc. has introduced EasyLoader, a standalone In-Circuit Programmer/Loader designed to provide a flexible and cost-effective solution for electronic device manufacturers, as well as for hardware design companies and their customers. It allows code upgrades on JTAG/SPI/I2C-compliant devices (like FPGA/CPLD/EEprom/Flash, etc.) or microcontrollers at any time during development, testing, or production.
The small size and ease of use of the EasyLoader make it a unique device for the electronics manufacturing industry, usable by almost anyone without error. Once configured using a PC, it can be disconnected and repeatedly used for a particular electronic product. An intuitive red/green LED interface indicates the operation status, making it ideal for manufacturing line environments. This eliminates the need to pre-program before assembly as code releases can be loaded momentarily — just before a manufactured device is shipped to a customer.
When configured, the EasyLoader functions as a completely standalone device that does not require connection to a host PC, power cable or batteries. Initially, EasyLoader is connected to a host computer via a USB port and loaded with the programming information. The included Windows based software application provides a user-friendly interface to EasyLoader. During normal operation, EasyLoader connects to the debug connector on the target board and automatically starts loading and programming the target device when power is turned on. Operational status is shown by the two built-in Red and green LEDs.
APPLICATIONS
Board Assembly House: the EasyLoader can be used to program PLDs as they come off the assembly line. It’s easy to use, so minimal training is required for personnel. After initial configuration, the device does not require a computer connection for normal operation.
Firmware Updates Prior to Shipping: boards can be programmed just prior to shipping to the customer. This ensures that only the latest firmware will be used. It also adds further flexibility, because a board can be programmed with different security/ or capability settings based on the particular customer order. There is therefore no need to stock boards with different firmware; instead, each board can be programmed with the appropriate software as the order comes in.
Remote Firmware Update: both the compact size and ease of use make it possible to simply ship an EasyLoader to customers. It starts working as the power is turned on so it can be easily operated by anyone - no need to send an engineer to a remote site just to reprogram a customer’s device or to ship a device back to the factory for an update or replacement.
Engineering: because the EasyLoader does not need a PC for normal operation, it is an ideal portable programming/loading solution where the debugging laboratory and engineering offices are in different locations.
Designed and made by Amfeltec Corp, EasyLoader is available now from Saelig Company, Inc. Fairport, NY.
