Fairport, NY: Saelig Company, Inc. has introduced the Portalevel® MAX PLUS, a new, handheld liquid level indicator that can non-invasively detect when its sensor probe is adjacent to the gas or liquid phase of a cylinder. This portable, battery-powered device is designed to accurately and reliably measure the liquid level of gaseous suppression agents contained within a cylinder. The UL-Approved Portalevel MAX PLUS is suitable for CO2, most liquified clean agents and halons. (A ‘clean agent’ is any type of fire extinguishing agent that is electrically non-conductive, volatile, or gaseous, and that does not leave a residue upon evaporation.) A transducer in the handheld wand generates an ultrasonic pulse that is transmitted into the cylinder, and the reflected response signal is measured. The Portalevel MAX PLUS then displays a numerical value, indicating the return signal strength. Analysis of the reflected signal determines if the transducer is positioned adjacent to the liquid or gas phase of the cylinder’s contents.
The Portalevel MAX PLUS, packaged in an attractive, ergonomic, rugged enclosure, offers three calibration modes and four power settings, giving the user great control when testing a variety of fire suppression systems. The instrument’s user interface indicates which substance phase is adjacent to the sensor placement, clearly indicating the position where gas and liquid meet, accurate to ±1.5 mm. Once the liquid level height inside a container has been located, the agent weight can be determined using the accompanying Portasteele® CALCULATOR, a 7’’ hand-held tablet, which is the world’s first liquid level to agent mass calculator.
The Portalevel MAX PLUS is designed as a portable tool for non-invasively locating the liquid level inside most single skinned cylinders. It is designed to quickly convert liquid height to agent weight, accounting for the cylinder size, agent type, and temperature. The instrument is capable of testing a wide variety of fire suppression agents, such as: CO2, FM200™, NOVEC™ 1230, halon agents, FE-13™, FE-25™, NAF S III™, and all core clean agent systems, as well as many other liquids. Its advanced ultrasonic technology is suitable for many applications, but it is most widely used as a replacement to weighing fire suppression cylinders during installation and servicing, and the replacement for fitting internal, invasive liquid level ‘float’ devices.
