ALFAT - FAT file system IC

ALFAT™ makes it very easy to add millions of bytes to your new design. ALFAT™ is a full FAT file system stack that was compiled, linked and programmed on a powerful 32-bit processor (LPC2114.) FAT file system was introduced by Microsoft and is supported by all operating systems from Microsoft, including Windows XP. Also, most other operating system support FAT as well.

ALFAT™ saves files and directories in standard FAT file system so the media can be accessed from any other devices that supports FAT file system, a PC, most digital cameras and MP3 players. Simply, send your data to ALFAT™ chip using serial port or SPI and ALFAT™ will take care of the rest.

• FAT32, FAT16 and FAT12 support.
• Runs with simple robust protocol on UART, SPI or I2C.
• 256-byte FIFO for UART, SPI and I2C.
• UART runs as high as 921.6 K-baud, SPI clock is up to 7Mhz and I2C clock up to 400Khz.
• Fast file Write, up to 70 KB/S, average is 35 KB/S. (KB = 1024 Bytes)
• Fast file read, up to 250 KB/S.
• Can be easily used with any microcontroller including PIC, AVR, and Basic Stamp.
• Can run in standalone mode where ALFAT executes Guesbo byte code.
• Supports Compact Flash (CF), Multi Media Card (MMC) and Secure Digital (SD) memory cards.
• Supports Hard Disks (HD) using standard IDE cable.
• Supports directories and subdirectories.
• Can open up to 16 files at the same time using file handles.
• Field upgradeable firmware.
• Firmware can be updated from a file on the connected media!
• Built in 10-bit ADC.
• All I/O pins are 5 volt tolerant.
• Very few external components are needed.
• Small LQFP 64 package.
• 40 to 60 mA, power consumption with capability of a complete shut off.
• -40˚C to +85˚Ctemperature operating range.
