This GSM Quad Band Cellular Module by Telit  allows you to connect to an embedded device via a cell-phone. It is compatible with 850/900/1800/1900MHz cellular networks worldwide. To use, take the SIM card from your cell-phone and put it into the module’s socket.  Suggested cellular providers with SIMcards include Cingular, AT&T, and T-Mobile.  You can control GM862 with via AT modem commands to send serial data strings. (N.B. this version does not support Python programming.  It is GPRS Class 10  with an embedded TCP/IP Stack, FTP and SMTP Client.  It needs 3.4-4.2V and consumes 17/3.5/250mA stand-by/low-power mode/operating, and can send data, voice, SMS, and fax data at speeds up to 57.6kbps
